Criteria for Participation
Students may self-nominate and apply, or a medical school may nominate one student per year for this award.
Student or the medical school may submit a nomination packet:
- Applicant must be a third-year student underrepresented in medicine or from a disadvantaged background who demonstrates academic excellence
- A curriculum vitae (CV) for the nominee, which includes awards, scholarships, and scholastic achievements
- A personal statement by the nominee articulating their leadership efforts and/or engagement efforts in projects or initiatives addressing health disparities and/or the healthcare of racial and ethnic minorities, specific accomplishments or achievements while in medical school and a summary of the applicant’s plan to pursue a career in hospital medicine and in an underserved community of color (The personal statement should not exceed three double-spaced pages)
- One letter of recommendation from a faculty member
Scholarship awards are contingent upon available funding.
